This one-semester course is focused on basic but essential concepts and principles of educational research. It is not restricted to quantitative approaches only, but deals also with qualitative methods and techniques. The Research Methods programme is aimed at helping students to understand the process of educational research. It teaches them how to identify an area/topic for research; to formulate related problem statements and research problems and/or hypotheses; to think through, plan for and execute data collection; and considerations for analyzing the data collected. The course also pays attention to the writing and communication skills of the students particularly in relation to the presentation of research proposals and reports. EDRS 2201 is followed by the course EDRS 2202: Basic Data Analysis with the Computer to complete the undergraduate programme in Research Methods.
