The course focuses on an in-depth look at a property to survey its current conditions to reveal any short- or long-term repair and replacement needs for pre- and post-disaster events. In addition, an overview of St Lucia’s hazards, Building Valuation, and the development of the Building Assessment Metric are presented. The main goal of the course is to develop local expertise to assess the island’s building stock.

This course takes learners through the process of preparing for and presenting at an
academic context, from the application of research methods and relevant skills in
gathering data, to the preparation of the research project. The course seeks to
acquaint learners with academic conventions specific to their field, and concludes
with the presentation of a proposal for their project.
